Eric: For current performance, we look at historic data that is available on the Bloomberg Terminal. We normalize these emissions by industry-specific activity metrics to control for the different sizes of companies. Then in terms of the forward-looking, forecast component, we pull information from publicly stated targets.
We use these target to generate emissions forecasts, which can help cut through the noise and say “Here’s what this means in terms of where the company will be in 2030 or 2050.”
Jonas: We have unique data. For example, we are tracking project-level activity on renewable energy, electric vehicle charging, petrochemicals, biofuels, hydrogen, carbon capture and storage. Companies do a lot of marketing promoting their low-carbon activities, but there is actually very little disclosure. Our bottom-up data lets you compare what companies are actually doing.
